Summary: Guns seem have a strange power over people: too often passion drives out thought. The Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology should be commended for bringing together some of the best scholars on both sides of the debate over guns in America. My purpose in this introductory essay is to say a bit about how we got to where are today on guns in Chicago and in the nation and what some of the things are that we should be thinking about going forward.
